Older holiday reports

This page has holiday reports from the year 2003 and before, and completes our holiday report archive back to when Honeyguide started in 1991.

For the most part the old reports are not updated, so may use species names that have been changed since. In some cases, we may make better identifications now, especially of tricky plants and invertebrates.

If you have come across this page by accident, it'll be best to move quickly onto our more recent reports here, especially the most recent ones that are in colour.

The reports are in PDF format which requires a plug-in to enable you to download and print the reports. You can download the plug-in from here.

Honeyguide reports,
the early years

In the early 1990s, word processors were basic and pictures were quite literally stuck into holiday reports before they were copied. So the standards of the reports here are of their time, but the wildlife was equally good!

* Scans: marked with an asterix are reports that are low res (usually 150dpi) scans: any higher and the PDF would be huge. Some early reports were typed and printed on an old Amstrad (remember them?).

The lack of an identifier on 1991-92 report front covers, to say that it's a Honeyguide holiday report, is because they were printed onto headed paper.

Some reports were scanned with Optical Character Recognition (OCR). That needs tidying, sometimes a lot, and some mis-read characters may have been missed. Page breaks may be a little different to the original report.

There are 80 holiday reports on this page, covering 87 holidays (seven reports on the Lot are for two holiday weeks back to back) plus one recce report.

Italy/Slovenia holidays were first called 'The Mountains and Marshes of NE Italy' and, from 1995, renamed 'From the Alps to the Adriatic'.

Joint holidays: 'Easter in Mallorca' and 'From the Alps to the Adriatic' in 1995 and Cyprus in 1994 were run jointly with Norfolk and Suffolk Wildlife Trusts.

Dordogne holiday reports 2001-2008 exclude the complete flower list included in the printed version. That was on an excel file and not included on the web version, though is included from 2009. Those lists are available from the Honeyguide office.

Some holiday reports refer to thank-you letters from conservation bodies that were in Honeyguiders' printed reports but not always in these electronic versions.

Fuerteventura 1997: this was one of just five destinations in the brochure that year (Crete was an additional group booking). There were just two bookings, from Honeyguiders Frank and Joyce Dunn. It wasn't enough for a group but they went anyway. We booked flights and the hotel and gave advice; they reported that it was a successful trip. But without a leader or report it doesn't quite count for this page.

There is also a RSPB/Swan Hellenic Nile Cruise report from March 1984 on file awaiting an OCR scan.
